CCTT Launches National Technology Week in Ottawa, Algonquin College, Nov 3, 2008

Ottawa – November 3, 2008. The Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT), in partnership with the National Council of Deans of Technology (NcDOT), today announced the official launch of National Technology Week 2008.  The 2008 launch took place at a kick-off luncheon at Algonquin College co-hosted by Mr. Robert Okabe, Chair of the CCTT National Technology Week organizing committee andMr. Claude Brule, Executive Dean, Algonquin College representing the National Council of Deans of Technology. 

 

Over 70 participants including senior industry and government officials, college and association representatives and students attended the launch.  A luncheon keynote was delivered byZsolt Kekesi, Recruitment Leader for Bombardier Aerospace who addressed the theme of issues and challenges related to technical skills shortages and recruiting technology professionals in the aerospace sector. 

Ed Leslie, NTW organizing committee member and NBSCETT Executive Director announced the winners of the 2008 Technology Champion Awards recognizing the top 5 technology teachers across Canada.  Stacy Dubois, one of Team Canada’s elite 2009 Skills Competition finalists, offered remarks on the positive impact of pursuing a technology career.

National Technology Week 2008 is the culmination of a year-long national program of activities and special events designed to showcase the many exciting career choices available to Canada’s youth in applied science and engineering technology.  Held annually during the first week of November, National Technology Week features special events, contests, activities and programs to help students, teachers and parents explore technical careers.
